Pillars of Community

Public Art

Legends of Lakewood: Pillars of Community, 2005, City Hall, Lakewood, California

To honor the 50th anniversary of this innovative city, I created three pillars in the shape of houses elevated on a pedestal that are illuminated from within. The walls of the pillars are historic photos laminated between glass. Mounted on the surface are dichroic glass “bricks” with founders’ names (that will be added to over the years).

Stainless steel, laminated glass, photographs, dichroic glass, illumination. Each pillar is 11’ tall x 2’ x 2’

Commissioned by the City of Lakewood, Lesley Elwood, project manager.
