Inside My Closet

Artists' Books

Cheri Gaulke created this book in collaboration with five young girls from Plaza de la Raza. Closed, the book hangs on a clothes hanger. Opening the book is like exploring a closet, including text printed over a “mirrored” door. Inside, each girl wrote about an article of clothing which acquired magical properties and took her on an adventure.

1989, 9.5 x 4.5” Edition of 150. Letterpress printed with a variety of typefaces, linoleum block images, and Sandragraph textures on card stock and mirrored paper, with stitched binding and clothes hanger. Printed at the Women’s Graphic Center at the Woman’s Building in Los Angeles.

Limited quantities available for $50 from Cheri Gaulke.
