Frogskin

Artists' Books

“Approach the throne my beloved” begins the poetic, erotic text that hops over pages of leafy lushness in a search for the disappeared frog without and within. Two pull-out pages add a subtext of folklore and scientific mystery. This is a cautionary tale: don’t fail to recognize the marvelous, because it’s transitory—once it’s gone, it’s lost forever. Disturbing and beautiful.

2005, 7.75 x 6.25” Edition of 100. Written, designed, and printed by the artist, based on the video installation “Once Upon a Time.” Printed on an Epson Stylus Pro 7500 with archival ink on Epson doubleweight matte paper. The structure is a snake fold with pull-out panels. Imagery created by scanning leafy materials and human skin on a flat-bed scanner. Made possible in part by a grant from the City of Los Angeles, Cultural Affairs Department.
