Vanowen Bridge

Public Art

2013, Los Angeles River, San Fernando Valley

Vanowen Street is the thoroughfare between Van Nuys and Owensmouth and this movement is reflected in wheel and wave design motifs. The wave is for river water, the wheels are for history — wagon wheels for settlers, gears for industry, film reels for movie production, tires for suburbia, and bicycle wheels for the new bike paths and energy-saving commuting.

Cast concrete, metalwork, 5’ x 80’ x 1’

Commissioned by the Los Angeles Bridge Improvement Program, managed by Cultural Affairs Department.
