Valor: Filipino World War II Veterans Memorial, 2006, Lake Street Park, Los Angeles

Five large black granite monoliths rise from the ground and two granite benches allow viewers to sit in meditation before them to honor the struggles, victories and patriotism of Filipino World War II veterans. Etched photographs and text tell their story from colonial history to present-day. Text is in English and Tagalog. Between the center monoliths rises a vertical sheet of dichroic glass that shifts in color and evokes an eternal flame.

Black granite, photographic engraving, dichroic glass, 7’ x 20’ x 20’

Commissioned by Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Council District 13,  project manager Lesley Elwood.
